Dr. Ari Aycock Williams studied and received her undergraduate degree in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences from University of Michigan in 2005, then went on to earn her DVM degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009.
When asked when she knew she wanted to become a veterinarian, Dr. Ari answered, "When I was an Undergraduate at U of M, I was pre-med, but didn't feel the passion when volunteering at a human hospital. One day, I decided to volunteer at a local animal hospital and it was the best day of my life. I loved how the vets approached the complicated cases and how the medicine was intertwined with seeing all these adorable animals. This passion has propelled me into a full career of loving animals professionally."
Dr. Ari found out about Project Street Vet through a TV news special on Dr. Kwane's Street Vet Work and she was inspired to volunteer. According to Dr. Ari, the most rewarding part of volunteering with PSV is seeing the gratitude from pet parents when their pets receive the care they deserve. A memorable experience of hers was treating this sweet lab that belonged to a young woman who escaped an abusive situation where her dog was also being abused. She just wanted the best for her dog more than herself. "That selflessness was admirable."
Volunteering is not without personal growth - it has taught Dr. Ari to see people as a whole, not just letting their circumstances define them. Our saying at Project Street Vet is, "No Judgement. Just Help," and that is what guides her practice in this organization.
