Drafty and Charles
Drafty is an 11-year-old Labrador mix faithful companion to her dad Charles. When we spoke to Charles initially over-the-phone, we could hear how much it pained him to know Drafty was having long-term nasal discharge and did not have the funds to be able to get the care Drafty needed. He reached out to Project Street Vet in the hopes of finding answers/help with treatment for Drafty’s nasal issues. After hearing their story, the team at Project Street Vet wanted to help through our free pet clinic program to have one of our amazing vet volunteers evaluate her there first to see what they could help with at that event.
Once we saw them at our pop-up clinic, not only did our staff and volunteers fall in love with Drafty, but we could see the loving undeniable human-animal bond they share between each other. Our lovely vet volunteer, Dr. Jane, examined her and prescribed antibiotics and told Charles if Drafty was the same after going through the medication to contact us and we would have him go through our financial assistance program, where the cost of veterinary care is sponsored by Project Street Vet for qualified cases.
Drafty and Charles were referred to B Street Veterinary Hospital, a partner hospital of Project Street Vet. After an exam, a nasal explore, and some work-up tests, it was found that Drafty tested positive for having a fungal infection called Aspergillosis. The Doctor recommended that this would need to be treated with medication and monthly bloodwork to make sure the medications are not impacting any organs negatively. After taking the medication for a little over a month now, Drafty’s bloodwork came back good and seems to be heading in the right direction to recovery! Thanks to a grant from Grey Muzzle Organization, Project Street Vet was able to help Drafty get the needed medications to try to give Drafty the best chance at fighting her fungal infection.
After receiving the help, Charles shared, “Thanks to Project Street Vet, my 11-year-old Lab mix girl, Drafty, is happy & doing well in her fight with a stubborn fungal infection!” A huge thanks to the amazing Grey Muzzle Organization! As a result of being one of their chosen organizations to receive a grant, we were able to help Drafty with her work-up tests and medications.
